Why don't you take insurance?

Our decision not to accept insurance is to maintain the highest level of personalized care and flexibility for our clients. By operating independently, we can focus on tailoring therapy plans to meet individual needs without limitations imposed by insurance policies. This allows us to provide a more comprehensive and effective therapy experience for our clients. However, we do provide detailed super-bills that clients may use for potential reimbursement from their insurance companies if applicable.

Beginning with an Evaluation to Understand the Root Cause

At Speech Solutions, we believe effective myofunctional therapy starts with understanding the underlying cause of our clients' challenges. Before beginning therapy, we will start with an evaluation that includes:

  • A review of relevant developmental and medical history

  • Interview to discuss your concerns and provide you an opportunity to ask questions

  • Examination of the oral structures and function of the muscles of the jaw, mouth, and tongue

  • Observations of eating, drinking, and swallow patterns

  • Evaluation of speech sound production

Following the evaluation, we will share our findings and discuss treatment options. Whenever necessary, we will also make any additional referrals.

Myofunctional Therapy

Our therapy sessions are personalized, focusing on exercises that enhance the strength, coordination, and positioning of the orofacial muscles. These exercises will improve jaw stability, speech, swallowing patterns, and nasal breathing and promote a closed-mouth resting posture.

At Speech Solutions, our myofunctional therapist uses activities that are engaging and suitable for all ages. Home practice programs are an important aspect of myofunctional therapy. During each session, we will review progress and provide education for both the client and their caregivers to support continued practice between sessions.

We are accepting new clients for myofunctional therapy in our Lawrence, KS clinic and online.
